In order to fully secure the communication of all cellular data, Alula maintains redundant private networks (VPNs) with each cellular carrier we work with. This morning, an outage occurred on one of our primary Verizon VPN endpoints. It successfully failed over to its secondary and the vast majority of cellular connected devices continued to operate successfully. The secondary VPN endpoint was configured with a higher degree of security that affected a subset of installed devices (approximately 2000). For the affected devices, systems configured for a narrow supervisory window will have indicated a cellular path Central Station communication failure. The secondary VPN endpoint was reconfigured at 8:05AM this morning and Verizon restored the primary VPN by 8:15AM. Alula is investigating and evaluating the testing process used on these failover systems to ensure reliable communications.
